presented my masters project yesterday
i had to explain my project and findings to the other students, and it went really well - i got a first! so glad i don’t get remotely nervous about presenting any more :D

was basically a slideshow of our lecturer’s pet ducks - including his favourite “fuzzy”, who sits on his shoulder - to prepare us for our fieldtrip to swansea wildfowl centre next week where we will be feeding birds, getting nipped and trying to record their features all day
reason #1636 why i love my course

tomorrow’s nine am lecture is going to be interesting..

it’s held in a little classroom to encourage discussion, and seems like it’s going to be a nice mix of philosophy and science, which is pretty cool!
this week’s topics were the idea of “resurrecting” certain species (like mammoths) and races of human (such as ancient egyptians), since it’s perfectly possible, and whether the fact we’ve created so many new species of plant and animal counts as biospheric evolution
i’m in my element you guys ♥

other numbers include “Ode to the Mould on the Bathroom Ceiling” and the classic “Hole in the Roof (Which Should Have Been Fixed Months Ago)”.

(in the words of borat sagdiyev)
i’m a fully-fledged mentor! only 18% of applicants got through so i’m pretty proud of meself :D
can’t wait to meet my group and impart my shiny third-year wisdom oooh

just got back from the climbing club social with a tum full of maccy d’s, covered in sharpie and bruises
i love everything right now, i don’t even mind that i have an entire day of solid work tomorrow ♥

one week ‘til the deadline and my brain is a poor crispy fried thing!
to put this in context for ya, after spending six weeks trundling around 25km2 of the french countryside recording types of rock as coloured blobs on a huge map, we now have to figure out where the hell the boundaries go, how each rock type relates to the others in terms of age and processes, and deduce what it all looks like as an underground cross-section
being a rock detective is tough sometimes you guys

with another first, and an even better grade than last year! i can’t belieeeve it ♥

sorry about the lack of postage, internet here isn’t amazingly available (and i’m just so busy licking rocks and chasing lizards) - just a quick update to say i’m having a bon time! hopefully now i’ve settled in, i’ll be able to pop over here to reception to use the wifi for a few minutes most evenings to actually keep my blog alive, as well as posting some of the awesome pictures i’ve taken so far.
it’s SO DAMN HOT and i’ve definitely already burned, but we’ve already had some great times in our little tent village among the pine trees and have been cooking up some yummy meals on the diddy camping stove.
i lurb you all and will write again sooon! ♥

this year’s flown so quickly, and so many people have made it amazing - the house parties, the fieldtrips, the nights out, even the lectures & pracs. i’ve made so many more great friends, only had one trip to the hospital, drunk my weight in beer, achieved the best grades i could have hoped for, and have finally been on an aeroplane!
now i just can’t wait to spend six weeks of my summer in the gorgeous south of france with the geology crew, and come back to a much nicer house here in september. it’s so hard to believe i’m already half-way through my degree.. i don’t want it to end! ♥

that went so well! the delicious steak & couple of pints in the pub afterwards really hit the spot, too ♥
roll on the next eight.. eek!
