this probably isn’t going to make much sense in the morning (i have to get up at eight thirty even though it’s almost three in the morning already) but srsly i actually bypassed several takeaway shops on the way home and opted for a cheese triangle instead. in my drunk state i have tidied my room and the fridge & cupboards downstairs because that is what whiskey does to me; it makes me disgracefully organised and generous. i’ve spell-checked this post again because i am just that conscientious when i’m smashed; i can’t see straight, but i can type in proper english, and that is what really matters. i’m going to fall asleep the second my head hits the pillow, and tonight was absolutely excellenté. i have bolognese to eat tomorrow and saturday, and i am looking forward to that ever so much! our sofas now have cushions & throws after we almost got lost in ikea, so tomorrow we’ll be chilling and watching episodes of scrubs all day. dum dada dum dada dum, shiny scalpel! ♥
edit: it’s one in the afternoon and i’m definitely still slightly drunk - getting up for that lecture was so dire! chilling with an ice cream & cold milkshake, nom.
it’s only three days into second year and we’re already loving life 2k11. we’ve already been out a couple of nights and had a lush pub crawl on sunday night; many more to come! it’s actually brilliant living in a proper housing district because the pubs aren’t full of freshers (goodness, we feel old already), and there are so many more older students to meet. our house is utterly lush (i’ll get some piccies up of the rest of it when we’ve been to ikea and decorated it more), and my room.. well, see for yourself! i LOVE it, it’s so cosy and homely. ♥
we’re getting a tellybox soon so we can all cwtch up on the sofas and watch our favourite shows, and i think my housemate is cooking us all paella tonight which will be scrummy yumboes. we’ve got a caveman-themed party to go to later which could be absolutely hilarious! bring on the rest of the year, cardiff.

getting a new student loan payment is literally like christmas
A COOKED GOOSE FOR EVERYONE
i am going back to uni in about an hour and i am so excited i might wee. i’ll still be able to update from my phone, but i probably won’t be online much at all until monday - so see you in two days, ladies and jellyspoons! ♥
this summer has flown by, even though it’s been almost four months long - i need to get myself all packed up again! as soon as i arrive tomorrow i’ve got to sort out my room so it’s all decorated and lovely, get my first food-shop done, and get ready go go out to an awesome jungle-themed party - it’s madness, and i am so veryvery excited!
our internet will be installed on monday so i won’t be online this weekend - but i shall be back with a vengeance next week with pictures of my new house and flowery bedroom. i love you all so very much, my sexy ponies! ♥
i’ve won monopoly three times in the last two days, haha! my handsome opponent didn’t stand a chance. after playing monopoly at his house almost every time i visit for the last couple of months, we’ve come up with a theory - if he gets first turn (decided through rolling the highest number), i win, and vice versa. this has been true of every game we’ve played so far and we think we might be able to base a scientific fact on this. i urge you all to engage in two-player monopoly and help us find substantial evidence in case we’re just special (which we are anyway, in the best sort of way). ♥
i’ve got the harry potter books in text format on my laptop, and today in a burst of bored and very immature inspiration i did cheeky find-and-replace on the word “wand” in the goblet of fire. after laughing like a drain, which resulted in mum coming to read over my shoulder, i cherry-picked the best snippets for you to enjoy after the jump!
there is a guy in cardiff who seems to spend all day and night just drumming on the metal bins in the city centre
i first saw him earlier this year on a night out, and i thought he was just doing it because he was drunk - but every single time i’ve visited this summer he’s been there again in all weathers, drumming away! he even wears a suit to do it, as if it’s his actual job, and migrates around the city so you never know where you’ll find him next. he must be earning a decent living from it, but it’s just so incongruous! he’s probably going to end up a bigger tourist attraction than the castle. come visit cardiff to see him, ladies and jellyspoons!
What exactly does Earth Science cover? 'Cause I'm gonna be doing interdisciplinary science, and that's part of my course :) x
to use a blanket term, earth science is basically how the earth works! it covers tectonics (including earthquakes & volcanoes, and their components), geology (how various rock types are formed and explaining landscapes using this knowledge, as well as working out what’s underground), palaeontology (using the fossil record to deduce past environments & create correlations - lots of dinosaurs involved), planetary science (other planets’ systems, the sun, the universe as a whole), meteorology (how our atmosphere works & how weather is created), and a little bit of conservation (understanding how coastal/riverine/coral reef systems work so they can be protected). hope you enjoy doing some of that, it’s really interesting! c: ♥
Well done :) Was it a bit scary then or did it just seem to come naturally? :)
thank you! i was really nervous about actually getting it started the first time, but after that it came quite naturally! i’m very surprised i didn’t kill us both, but driving honestly isn’t as hard as i thought it’d be. by the end of it my gear changes were pretty smooth - i remembered all the pedal/gear sequences perfectly after a few tries! c:
in under an hour i learned to start, stop, change gear, reverse, drive around corners and over speed-bumps, check my mirrors and clean the windscreen - all in a car with a very temperamental clutch, but i tamed the beast. proud! ♥
Hello! I just read your post on Rosie Kilburn, I'm near to the area too, it's such an absolute shame but your blog absolutely nailed it - she truly was inspirational and i hope everyone will remember for her for the girl she was and the amazing things she did. PS; I love your blog, it's a damn site more entertaining than most people on this tumblr thing >.< x
i’m really happy you think i did her justice - it’s so hard to put bravery like hers into words! i completely agree; she’ll be a source of strength for others, too, for a very long time. what a girl.
i’ve never sat behind the wheel of a car, even though i’ve been of legal driving age for two years - i’ve just never had the money to learn, and i still won’t be able to actually learn properly until i finish uni - but one of my friends is taking me out in his car today to teach me the basics! i’m so exciiited ♥
definitely having a mother-daughter night tomorrow
i’ve missed cwtching up in my mum’s bed and watching crime programmes together, guessing “whodunnit” and giving each other massages. i love my mummy, i do. even though i’ve been an adult for a while now, it’s so nice to feel like just a little girl again sometimes - when i stay at home for the holidays, dad still brings me a lovely cup of tea every morning like he’s done since as far back as i can remember. i’m so grateful for the lovely upbringing they gave me - we’ve never had a posh house, expensive belongings or flashy cars, but that’s never mattered because we’re rich in looove. aah.
this is a massively cheesy post, but i’m feeling mushy tonight. thank you to families everywhere who are caring, supportive and strong for each other - i’m endlessly grateful for mine. ♥
rosie kilburn, a lovely girl who lived near my area (although i sadly never had the chance to meet her) passed away from cancer yesterday. i’d only recently come across her blog through a friend, and i loved reading her inspirational posts - despite being diagnosed with cancer aged seventeen she spent the last two years helping her family run the charity and business she’d come up with, to help raise funds for cancer treatment and remove the taboo around talking about the disease. she promoted survival and strength, and that really shone through in her blog. i loved how happy she looked in her pictures, despite being terribly ill in bed - she really liked to show off her new pretty bedding and talk about her day-to-day achievements living with the disease. i keep reading her last post, made just two days ago, over and over - it’s so happy and upbeat, she said she was feeling better, and was going to post some more photos up the next day. she never did; when i read the message written by her family yesterday, informing us of her death, a part of me completely broke. i didn’t know her personally, but she had a real impact on my own optimism and view of the world, and i was with her in heart and mind all the way. strength like hers is rarely matched - and even though the terribly ferocious cancer she was plagued by got the best of her body in the end, it never got the best of her spirit.
rest in peace rosie, you beautiful, inspirational girl. ♥
i’ve noticed some of my inspirational quotes (and even a photo of my stomach) being reblogged by pro-anorexia blogs, and i just have to say that i do not condone the use of my quotes or photos for that purpose. i promote healthy living, healthy attitudes and healthy bodies; so if you’re following me for any kind of “thinspo”, you’ve got the wrong idea about my blog. i know that i can’t stop anybody from relating my quotes to the anorexic frame of mind (it’s usually the “never give up”-themed ones) - but i just hope everyone’s aware that i don’t intend them to apply to self-damaging things like anorexia.
if you have an eating disorder - whether it’s anorexia, bulimia, pica or b.i.d. - you have to get help for it before it seriously harms your physical health as well as your mental well-being. for more information on defeating these eating disorders and becoming a happier, healthier you, visit b-eat.co.uk. ♥
Omg you like LoZ too!! You’re even more awesome ;D Happy Moving times! :D Have you got the rest of the house sorted too? :)
haha, thank youu! i’d never call myself a “legit” zelda fan because i never played the games as a child, and have only recently got into them - but i do love it! ♥
the rest of the house will be a joint effort between me and my other four housemates - we’ll probably all pitch in and go on a shopping trip for sofa cushions, throws, rugs and the like. c: i’m so excited!
Gosh! What's you favorite type of weather and why do you enjoy it? Also, how do you stay warm and cozy on cold days/nights?
if i’m out and about i love it to be calm and sunny, but not too hot! in autumn i do like a playful breeze to blow leaves up at my feet though, and when the chilly days creep in i take great enjoyment in wrapping myself up in cosy knits for the outdoors. when i’m inside, though, nothing beats stormy weather - gales of wind thrashing raindrops against the windows and howling through the eaves is the best thing to listen to when you’re cosy in bed!
knitted cardis and jumpers, as well as woolen tights, are my favourite way to keep out the cold - and chilly nights are the best. i love cwtching up in my big soft dressing gown with the hood up, sipping hot cocoa and watching a favourite programme or reading a favourite book - especially with company. nothing beats it! ♥
you guys, i’m too excited. it’s on a pretty little road, just ten minutes’ walk from the university - and my bed’s all made and waiting for me. we bought all my bedding and replaced the knobs (ooh-err) on the bedside table to make it look new and fresh, and i am pleased to report that my bed is very bouncy. we even got to stuff our faces with double cheeseburgers and read legend of zelda books on the train home, so today was pretty much perfect. roll on saturday! ♥
i’ve just had my hair done, and it’s glorious. i had a different stylist this time who tried out a few new methods on me, and i really like it! the best part though, as always, was the free head-massage when she washed the dye off. ohhhman, i live for the massage. ♥
even though i have my hair trimmed so often and i absolutely love it, i always feel the childish part of my heart wrench to see all the scraps of hair fall to the floor. when i was little i used to apologise to it and keep a lock of hair each time, so there’s an envelope in my “memories” box that’s filled with my blonde curls of various ages. fun fact of the day! c:
